The SEO dashboard

Updated

SEO → Dashboard is the overview of your site’s SEO.

  • Key figures: clicks, impressions and average position from Google over the last 28 days (with Search Console connected), how many pages search engines may index, and your average SEO score.
  • Next steps: what to fix, most important first, each with a button that opens the right screen. For example: search engines are blocked, posts without a meta description, pages losing clicks, missing pages visitors still open, posts no other post links to.
  • Search performance: a daily chart of clicks, impressions, position or click-through rate, compared with the period before (7 days, 28 days or 3 months), plus your top pages and searches.
  • Content health: SEO scores per post type (good, needs work, poor, not analyzed), and counts of posts without a description, without a focus keyword, without internal links pointing to them, or hidden from search. Each count opens the matching list in the Bulk Editor.
  • Site checks: settings that affect every page (search engine visibility, permalinks, title support, HTTPS, sitemap, other SEO plugins, Search Console, default social image), with a link to fix each one.
  • Missing pages from the 404 log, and your sitemap address with a Copy button.

On a new site, a Finish setting up checklist leads through the setup wizard, Search Console, descriptions for your pages and a default social image. Click Hide to remove it.

Refresh

The figures are refreshed every ten minutes; click Refresh at the top of the page to update them now.

The WordPress Dashboard widget

A smaller SEO overview with the key figures and the top three next steps appears on the WordPress Dashboard for users who can manage SEO settings. Like any Dashboard widget, you can hide it under Screen Options.

Pointers to Pro

While Pro is not installed, people who manage SEO settings see a few small pointers to it: a Site audit card on the dashboard, a line under some next steps, an Available in Pro section on the Modules screen, one line on the Local SEO, Schema and Bulk Editor screens, and a Get Pro link on the Plugins screen. Click Hide to remove one for good. They never appear on other admin screens, and nothing in the free plugin is limited without Pro.
