Breadcrumbs show visitors where a page sits on your site (“Home › Blog › Post title”). Add them in any of these ways:
- Block editor or site editor: add the SEO Breadcrumbs block. On WordPress 7.0 and later, WordPress’s own Breadcrumbs block can use the plugin’s trail too.
- Shortcode:
[wpiseo_breadcrumbs](optionalclassandseparator). - Theme template: call the template function.
Theme template
<?php if ( function_exists( 'wpiseo_breadcrumbs' ) ) { wpiseo_breadcrumbs(); } ?>Settings
SEO → Breadcrumbs sets:
- the separator and the home label
- an optional prefix (“You are here:”)
- the labels for search results and 404 pages
- whether the home link, the current page and the blog page are shown
- which taxonomy appears in the trail for each post type
You can also turn off the plugin’s minimal CSS to style breadcrumbs yourself. A post’s Primary category and Breadcrumb title (in the editor’s Advanced tab) control its own trail.
