Sitemaps

Updated

SEO → Sitemaps controls the XML sitemap, which helps search engines find your content.

  • Your sitemap is at /sitemap_index.xml (also /sitemap.xml). WordPress’s own /wp-sitemap.xml redirects there. Each content type has its own file, such as /post-sitemap.xml.
  • Submit the sitemap URL in Google Search Console and Bing Webmaster Tools. It can also be listed in robots.txt automatically.
  • Choose which content types, taxonomies and author archives to include, and exclude individual posts or terms by ID. Content set to noindex is left out automatically.
  • Images in your content are included by default.
  • Optional Google News and video sitemaps.
  • Lower URLs per sitemap if large sitemaps time out on your server.

Sitemap shows “page not found”?

Go to Settings → Permalinks and click Save Changes to refresh the URL rules, and check that the XML Sitemaps module is on.

To give visitors a page listing your content, add the HTML Sitemap block, or use the shortcode:
