Refunds work in both directions, and the plugin makes sure a refund is never recorded twice.
Refunding from EDD
- Open the order (Downloads → Orders → View) and click Refund.
- Choose the full order or specific items. Keep Refund the payment in Paddle ticked.
- Submit. EDD records the refund and the plugin asks Paddle to return the money. For partial refunds, the right products in Paddle are refunded.
Paddle may need to approve the refund (live refunds usually are). The order notes show its progress: “waiting for Paddle approval”, then “Paddle approved refund …”.
If Paddle rejects a refund
A clear note warns you that the customer was not refunded although EDD shows the refund. Refund in Paddle or restore the order.
If the request to Paddle fails (for example Paddle is unreachable), the note says so. You can then refund the payment in the Paddle dashboard; when Paddle reports it, the plugin matches it to the EDD refund instead of recording it twice.
Refunding in Paddle
Refunds made in the Paddle dashboard are recorded in EDD automatically.
- Full refunds mark the order Refunded and revoke licenses.
- Partial refunds mark it Partially Refunded, matched to the refunded products where possible.
- A note records the Paddle reference and reason.
Chargebacks and disputes
When Paddle reports a chargeback (Billing) or a payment dispute (Classic), the order is put On Hold, which also suspends its licenses, and a note is added. Paddle handles the dispute itself, as merchant of record.
