What your customers see

Updated

Here is the checkout from your customer’s side.

  1. The customer adds products to the cart and goes to your checkout page.
  2. They choose Paddle (shown with your payment method label), enter their name and email, and click Purchase.
  3. With the inline style the Paddle payment form appears in the page, in place of the Purchase button. With overlay it opens as a popup. An Edit details link lets them go back and change the order.
  4. They enter their card or choose PayPal, Apple Pay or Google Pay. Paddle shows the exact amount, the tax and, for subscriptions, the renewal terms, for example “7 days free, then $8.00 yearly”.
  5. After paying they see “Thanks! Your payment was received…” for a few seconds while the order is confirmed, then EDD’s receipt page with their downloads and license keys.
  6. The receipt includes a Download from Paddle link to Paddle’s tax invoice (Billing) or receipt (Classic).

Good to know

  • The cart is kept until payment succeeds. A customer who closes the payment form loses nothing.
  • Discount codes are applied in EDD. Paddle charges exactly the EDD total, so Paddle’s own coupon box is hidden.
  • If the customer changes the cart while the inline form is open (applies a coupon, changes quantity), the form closes and asks them to click Purchase again, so they always pay the new total.
  • Free orders (100% discount) are completed by EDD directly and never reach Paddle.
  • Customers who have JavaScript turned off are sent to Paddle’s hosted checkout instead.
