Create an API key and client-side token

Updated

The plugin talks to Paddle with an API key (server side) and a client-side token (in the browser).

  1. In the Paddle dashboard, open Developer Tools → Authentication.
  2. Under API keys, click New API key. Give it a name such as “My EDD store”.
  3. Grant read and write access to at least: Transactions, Subscriptions, Adjustments, Customers and Notification settings.
  4. Copy the key. Sandbox keys start with pdl_sdbx_apikey_.
  5. Under Client-side tokens, create or copy a token. Sandbox tokens start with test_ and live tokens with live_.

Missing permissions

A key without Notification settings access can’t set up the webhook for you, and a key without Adjustments access can’t refund. If Test connection says “Paddle refused this API key”, create a new key with read and write access.
