Upgrading from the free version

Updated

There is nothing to migrate: Pro uses the same Paddle settings, orders and webhook URL as the free version.

  1. Install the Pro plugin.
  2. Activate it.

What Pro does on activation

  • Deactivates the free version. You can then delete it from the Plugins screen.
  • Keeps your checkout as an overlay, as it was in the free version. You can switch to the inline checkout under Checkout style in the Paddle settings.
  • Paddle Billing: adds the subscription events to your existing webhook automatically (on the next admin page load, for each mode that has an API key and webhook secret), so renewals, cancellations, pauses and failed payments reach your store. If that doesn’t work (for example because the API key lacks permission), a notice asks you to click Set up webhook.
  • Shows a short checklist, including activating your license key, with a link to WooCommerce → Paddle.

Paddle Classic subscriptions

To sell subscriptions on Classic, also enable these alerts in Paddle → Developer Tools → Alerts / Webhooks: Subscription Created, Subscription Updated, Subscription Cancelled, Subscription Payment Success, Subscription Payment Failed and Subscription Payment Refunded.

Events sent while only the free version was active

The free version refuses subscription events on purpose, so Paddle retries them. Pro records them when they arrive.
