What your customers see

Updated

Here is the checkout from your customer’s side.

  1. The customer adds products to the cart and goes to your checkout page.
  2. They choose Paddle, fill in their details and click Place order. WooCommerce creates the order as Pending payment.
  3. With the inline style the Paddle payment form appears in the page. On the classic checkout it takes the place of the Place order button; on the Checkout block it opens inside the Paddle payment option. An Edit details button lets them close it and change their details. With overlay the payment form opens as a popup.
  4. They enter their card or choose PayPal, Apple Pay or Google Pay. Paddle shows the amount, the tax it adds and, for subscriptions, the renewal terms and any free trial.
  5. After paying they see “Thanks! Your payment was received. Confirming it with Paddle, this usually takes a few seconds…”, then the WooCommerce order confirmation page.
  6. The confirmation links to Paddle’s invoice or receipt.

The Pay for order page

Customers who pay later (for example from My Account → Orders, or from a payment link you send them) use WooCommerce’s Pay for order page. The Paddle checkout opens there automatically as a popup, and a Pay now button opens it again.

Good to know

  • Closing the payment form leaves the order Pending payment. The customer sees “The payment was not completed. You can try again.” and can pay again.
  • WooCommerce cancels unpaid orders after its Hold stock time, as with any other payment method. If Paddle takes the payment after that, the order is reopened and marked paid, with a note asking you to check the stock.
  • Coupons are applied in WooCommerce. Paddle charges the WooCommerce total, so Paddle’s own discount code box is hidden.
  • If the customer reaches the order confirmation before Paddle has confirmed the payment, the page says “We are waiting for Paddle to confirm your payment…” and refreshes by itself. For Billing, the plugin also asks Paddle directly, so a slow webhook doesn’t keep the customer waiting.
  • A payment in the wrong currency, for less than the order total, or made with an outdated checkout never marks the order paid; a note on the order explains what to check in Paddle.
